May 5th
Dear loved ones,
The wedding celebrations are only seven weeks away now, and we hope you’re all nearly as excited as we are!
This email is just to give updates on some practical matters.
Master of ceremonies & speaking opportunities
Firstly, we would like to introduce our dear friend, Pepijn. He will be the familiar face and voice during the festivities.
With this, we would also like to invite all who feel called to say something at the wedding to please reach out to Pepijn to discuss the best time to do so. Whether it's a short toast, a speech, or song, anyone is welcome to have a few minutes in front of everyone, but no one is required to do so.
To contact Pepijn, see contact info in the email (may be in spam).
“Norwegian” wedding cakes
As this is a wildly culturally blended wedding, we are taking inspiration from our Norwegian friends and will be having a “wedding cake table”. What does this mean? In lieu of one very fancy wedding cake, we are also inviting anyone who loves to bake to prepare ANY kind of dessert they feel is their specialty. Again, no one is required to bring something! Our goal is to simply have a warm and eclectic display that reflects our community, and any contribution is very much appreciated.
If this is something you’d like to do, we ask that you notify us by June 1st so we have a good quantity estimate.
Another note on food: this is a completely vegetarian wedding, with some vegan options available as well. And for our gluten-free friends, something will be prepared and kept safely separate for you!
Hotel
Very belated, but we eventually managed to get a special code from Hotel van der Valk in Tiel that you can use to make a booking for the night of the 20th. This offer is only available through this link and with this code. If you want to book for more than one night, you'll have to make a regular booking through their website. Please note that there is only a finite supply of rooms! So booking ASAP is recommended.
Click on this link to go to the booking page.
And as a reminder, transport between the hotel, station, and the party is provided by us for the whole day on the 20th. If you’re staying at the hotel and have your own/rental car, we kindly ask that you still use the transport van if at all possible.
Extra activities
We currently have 25 people interested in joining us for cocktails the evening of June 17th in the center of Utrecht, and 15 people interested in the Utrecht boat tour and Dutch pancakes on the 18th. If you’ve decided you would like to still join either of those activities, please let us know THIS week so that reservations can be adjusted in time.
We will also create group apps for each of these group activities to make communication a bit easier leading up to the dates. (Americans without WhatsApp are encouraged to get it when in Europe, as everyone here communicates exclusively via WhatsApp.)
Final notes
Y’all… I’ve (guess who’s writing this) had a lot of questions about the dress code. It’s not strict, and no one will be turned away for not having something that 100% matches the inspiration photos. Wear something fun and festive that’s your own style. Just no white dresses, shorts, or tennis shoes, because I’ll sic my friend Hannah after you. If you want to make sure, you can see more info on the the practical info page or WhatsApp/text/email Hannah (see contact info in email).
If you have any other general questions, feel free to reach out to us anytime.
Looking forward to partying with you all soon!
Much love, Edey & Mathijs
